is an innovative and first-of-its-kind Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor drug for the treatment of pruritus associated with allergic dermatitis and clinical manifestations of atopic dermatitis in dogs. INDICATIONS: * Treatment of pruritus associated with allergic dermatitis in dogs.

Composition:

Each tablet contains:

 

3.6 mg Oclacitinib 3.6 mg/tablet.

5.4 mg 5.4 mg oclacitinib/tablet.

16 mg 16 mg oclacitinib/tablet.

 

Oclacitinib is a selective inhibitor of Janus kinase (JAK) enzymes. It can inhibit the function of several cytokines dependent on JAK enzyme activity. For oclacitinib, the target cytokines are

 

 

 

Indications and use:

 

Treatment of itching linked to allergic dermatitis in dogs. Treatment of clinical manifestations of atopic dermatitis in dogs aged at least 12 months.

 

 

Dosage, mode and method of administration.

 

An initial dose of APOQUEL tablets of 0.4 to 0.6 mg oclacitinib/kg body weight, administered orally, twice daily for 14 days is recommended. As a maintenance treatment (after 14 days),

The same dose (0.4 to 0.6 mg oclacitinib/kg body weight) should only be administered once daily. Long-term maintenance treatment should be based on an individual assessment of risks and benefits by the responsible veterinarian.

These tablets can be administered with or without food. See the dosage table which indicates the number of tablets needed to achieve the recommended dose. The tablets are divisible by the separation slot.

 

 

Storage conditions :

 

Preserve the health of children and domestic animals.

Store at room temperature between 15° and 30°C. The remaining half of the tablet should be returned to the opened blister and stored (maximum 3 days, after which it should be discarded) in the original cardboard packaging.

 

 

Contraindications:

 

Cases of hypersensitivity to the active substance or to an excipient.

In dogs less than 12 months old or less than 3 kg.

In dogs with signs of immunosuppression or hyperadrenocorticism.

The effectiveness of the drug has not been studied in male breeding dogs or in pregnant or lactating female dogs. In the absence of such studies, its use is not recommended in these cases.

Apoquel modulates the nervous system and may increase susceptibility to infections and the development of papillomas.

 

 

Warnings:

 

There is no specific antidote. If there are signs of overdose in animals, they should be treated symptomatically. Clinical findings considered likely related to oclacitinib treatment are: alopecia (local), papilloma, dermatitis, erythema, erosions and crusts, interdigital “cysts” and leg edema. Apoquel is safe for humans as long as recommended conditions of use are followed.

The product may cause irritation, after handling, wash hands with water and in case of accidental contact with eyes, wash immediately with plenty of water.

In case of poisoning, contact the National Poison Control Center and/or go to a medical emergency room immediately with the product leaflet.

 

 

 Precautions.

 

 

Avoid contact with eyes. Do not eat, drink or smoke while handling the product. Wash your hands with plenty of water after handling the product. Do not reuse empty containers. Break up and dispose of them in accordance with local regulations, avoiding environmental contamination. Do not put them in lakes or streams. Do not store Apoquel with food, medicines for human use, hygiene products, drinks and household utensils.
